Final Images and Self- Evaluation

FINAL IMAGES

Marshall advertisement

The 'anti-alcoholic' poster

'Peter Loy' Poster

Self- Evaluation

For this assignment I produced three strong images (one product and two portraits). Throughout these images I wanted to:

1.Promote Marshall Amplification Company by creating a poster advertising the Marshall Product.

2.Advertise UK’s Peter Loy Company by making a poster/website banner containing a composition of my old camera in company of vintage props such as: vinyl disc, old book and decayed autumn leafs to add a little bit of a charm to the image.

3.Finally, to warn young people against excessive drinking of alcohol and having irresponsible fun by producing a poster for Rochdale Council containing strong social message.
In terms of research I searched for the information on the relevant websites such as: official Marshall Website, Rochdale Council, Directgov.co.uk, Peter Loy website, I also looked at old cameras’ e-bay auctions. Beside this, I collected information form magazines and leaflets (e.g. Kerrang magazines, photography magazines, Rochdale Council leaflets and adverts etc.)

I think that my final outcomes cover most of the criteria that I set myself. Also I believe that my ideas respond to a brief quite well and accurately. I judge my images as aesthetically pleasing and visually contemporary. Strong post-production in ‘Marshall’ and ‘Alcohol’ project was intended. However, in the future I would like to reduce the time spent in Photoshop and be more focused on technical site of studio lighting to get better ‘raw’ outcomes (this is my aim for next assignments). Furthermore, next time, in order to improve my work  I will think more in depth about mimicry, positioning, clothing and make-up of my models (because these seem to be very simple in my photographs).

Taking everything into account, I think this project is successful despite a few imperfections. I achieved vintage look in ‘Marshall’ and ‘Peter Loy’ image and I produced strong, noticeable poster for Rochdale Council and these were my main goals for this assignment.

Marshall Project - further development

This is a screenshot of the photograph I chose as my final image.

Marshall brand has quite vintage character and their products look very classic so I decided to make my photograph look quite classic, simple and vintage by adding vibrant colours.

We can visually compare my image to old vintage Coca Cola adverts which were very vivid and graphic.

'Alcohol project' post -production and further development

This is a photograph that I am going to use for this project. I've chosen this image because it has the strongest and the most expressive reflection in the bottle which I was aiming for. Also you can still see quite broad part of the model's face so the viewer doesn't loose the eye contact with the main subject.

My chosen image
This is comparison between the raw and manipulated image. My aim was to create strong eye catching piece of imagery with dramatic look and exaggerated textures. I think that strong contrast and unconventional style of post-production would catch the pedestrians' attention quickly.

In terms of post-production I enhanced highlights and shadows using dodge & burn tool. Also I used quite a lot of curve adjustments for separate part of image. I added strong vignette to expose the main subject and sharped the whole image with high -pass filter. The overall time to complete this image was about 4 hours.

Hue and colour experimentation

Final outcome

'Alcohol' project

I attempted to get best face deformation caused by the bottle and I think it worked quite well. In terms of lighting technique I went for high key effect to make my image more vivid and noticeable.

'Marshall' Studio session

For this session I was going for bright even lighting which will allow me to interference further at the stage of post-production. I experimented with different camera angles and different ways of positioning my model.

My lighting set-up

Product Assignemnt 'Vntage Cameras for Peter Loy Company'

Here I uploaded some of my best shots from studio session. I experimented with different lighting set-ups and creating different kinds of composition. Also I added some props such as: vinyl disc to add some vintage feeling to my images, autumn leafs to add some warm colours to give the whole composition a bit of a charm etc.

I used softbox as the main 'key' light and experimented with snoots, grids and reflecting the light with blender.
